Rey Mysterio Reportedly NOT Backstage At SmackDown LIVE Last Night
It was reported last night by Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso that Rey Mysterio was backstage at Tuesday’s SmackDown LIVE from Los Angeles. He also reported that Mysterio was working out a deal to return to the company for a match at WrestleMania 34 against John Cena.
PWInsider is reporting that several sources have indicated that Rey Mysterio was not in attendance last night in Los Angeles for the SmackDown LIVE tapings. Mysterio has reportedly been in negotiations with WWE for a return to the company, it still remains unknown if Barrasso’s claim that Mysterio will be facing John Cena at WrestleMania this year.
It has been no secret that Justin Barrasso’s track record as of late has not been that great, and now that PWInsider has shot down his recent report by confirming that Mysterio was not at this week’s SmackDown it appears very unlikely that Mysterio vs. Cena is in the books for this year’s WrestleMania.
We reported early Tuesday morning that Dave Meltzer has indicated that the planned match for Cena at WrestleMania was still The Undertaker.
It seems very unlikely that WWE would tease a match between John Cena and The Undertaker on Monday’s RAW and then do a complete 180 the next night with a planned Cena vs. Mysterio match.
We will keep you updated if more information becomes available regarding Rey Mysterio’s WWE status, or John Cena’s opponent for WrestleMania.
