It was reported earlier today by Dave Meltzer via the Wrestling Observer that Daniel Bryan was only cleared to compete by WWE “hours” before SmackDown Live went on the air last night. Meltzer went on to say that word got out late Monday night and early Tuesday morning that about Bryan’s return..
Meltzer said, “I couldn’t give you an exact time, but probably not until an hour before WWE announced it.”
On today’s latest audio update via PWI Elite, Mike Johnson reports that the word going around backstage at last night’s SmackDown LIVE is that Daniel Bryan was actually cleared to compete a couple weeks ago, which also goes along with what we at Bodyslam.net had also heard. This obviously contradicts the report made by Meltzer earlier today.
“I have some news for you. [Bryan] was cleared a couple weeks ago. That was the word backstage at SmackDown last night.” said Johnson.
But yes, the report from Mike Johnson confirms what we had heard regarding Daniel Bryan’s medical clearance, and that he actually was cleared around the time WWE dropped plans for the Shane McMahon vs. Dolph Ziggler match.
