In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Vince McMahon likely moved up the re-evaluation date Daniel Bryan had with Dr. Maroon from March 27th, to earlier in the week. Daniel Bryan was said to have “tears in his eyes” after the meeting concluded, it was at this point that the word began to spread backstage that Bryan was likely returning.
WWE made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon once everything was finalized regarding Bryan’s medical clearance. It’s said that WWE made the announcement in attempts to capitalize on the news and generate a big buzz and draw a high rating for SmackDown LIVE. The belief is that WWE’s announcement had nothing to do with the company wanting to break the news first, or get it out there before the rest of the internet did.
