Aleister Black Not Originally Slated To Win NXT Title At TakeOver: New Orleans
As seen on last night’s NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, Aleister Black defeated Andrade “Cien” Almas to become the new NXT Champion. However, it appears as though that may not have originally been the plan for TakeOver.
According to a report on today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer mentions that if Drew McIntyre had not gone down due to injury, that Black probably would not have been involved in the match.
“I don’t think it was the time for Andrade to lose, nor do I think it was time for Aleister Black to win. It just didn’t feel like the right time. I think, they think Aleister Black is going to be a big-time Superstar and he’s got the push and everything.. but it just felt like Andrade was too hot right now, and I know this was probably – when they put this thing together… probably the match they were putting together was McIntyre’s rematch.”
Drew McIntyre has been reported to be close to returning to injury, but still needs a little more time to rehab before being cleared to return to action.
