WWE Banned Asuka From Using The Armbar In Her Match At WrestleMania 34
As seen on last night’s WrestleMania 34, Asuka’s undefeated streak came to end when she submitted to Charlotte after being locked in the figure-eight.
The match was discussed on today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, and Dave Meltzer is reporting that WWE banned Asuka from using her signature move the armbar last night at WrestleMania 34.
Regarding Asuka being banned from using the armbar at WrestleMania 34, Meltzer said:
“Asuka was banned from using the armbar in this match if you’ll notice. She did a lot of submissions, like usually she’ll do the armbar with the triangle, and she could only do the triangle.”
Meltzer continues to add to the conversation by saying that he finds it humorous because initially they were planning on throwing multiple attempts at the armbar into the match, but obviously never ended up working that in. He points out that when Rousey was signed to the company a few months back, that WWE told Asuka to start using the armbar all the time, so she did. Asuka was then told to cut out the armbars completely for WrestleMania.
There was also speculation that her loss to Charlotte last night could indicate that WWE has put plans on hold for the rumored Asuka vs. Ronda Rousey feud, and that the company will need another hook or angle to use to build for their match since they can no longer do a streak vs. streak program.
