Chris Jericho went on to defeat Tetsuya Naito at NJPW Dominion 6.9 in Osaka-jo Hall to become the new IWGP Intercontinental Champion.
Chris Jericho had attacked Tetsuya Naito at 2018 New Year Dash. After the feud with Naito, Jericho had said that he will not be appearing on further NJPW shows. But he showed up at Wrestling Dontaku to attack Naito again, which resulted in the announcement of their match at Dominion for the Intercontinental Championship.
After winning the title for the first time, Chris Jericho commented on his victory on social media saying, “Well, Naito is amazing, but there’s a new Intercontinental Champion!”
