Last Night’s UFC on FOX Draws Lowest Numbers In Company’s History On Network
Last night UFC on Fox featured main event fight between Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier, and was co-main evented by Jose Aldo vs Jeremy Stephens. Poirier scored a win via referee stoppage in the second round, and we saw Jose Aldo’s first round victory over Stephens. Also featured on the event was Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s victory via decision over Tecia Torres.
Last night’s UFC on FOX delivered a solid night of fights, however drew the lowest ratings in the seven year history that UFC has been aired on FOX.
The event only pulled in 1,461,000 viewers according to fast nationals. Overall however, UFC on FOX did win the night in key demos with overall 18-49 drawing a 0.6 rating and the 18-34 demographic pulling a 0.4. While the other three major networks (ABC, NBC, and CBS) all were rerunning old programming but still were able to beat FOX in overall viewers.
What is fast nationals? Fast nationals measures FOX from 8-10 p.m., Eastern, 7-9 p.m. Central, and 6-8 p.m. Mountain time. They also measures 8-10 p.m. Pacific time because networks will stagger prime time for more West Coast viewing. But, when it comes to a live sporting event, the Pacific time zone would be measured based off of what programming local network affiliate stations air from 8-10 p.m.
Last night’s main event fight for the UFC on FOX event ended just after 10 pm EST, meaning that the majority of the fight was not measured and counted towards the numbers.
In the history of UFC airing on the FOX Network, none of their events have ever drawn lower than the 1,593,000 fast nationals number they recorded for the Souza vs. Brunson card back in January of 2018. Last night’s UFC on FOX card was easily considered to be a far better card from top to bottom than the Souza/Brunson card in January. However, in the past the month of July has always been a hard month for ratings.
