Update On WWE Programming Potentially Airing On FS1 Next Year
As you probably know, SmackDown LIVE will be making to move to the FOX Network in October of 2019. WWE’s new deal with FOX has also brought a lot of speculation as to what may happen to NXT as it has been rumored that NXT, or potentially another WWE TV program will also have a new home on FS1.
In the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, they discussed what the future may hold for NXT once WWE SmackDown LIVE makes the move to FOX. It was noted that there has been a lot of talk internally in this area as well.
Once UFC’s deal with FOX expires there will be a big loss of programming on FS1 and FS2, and there will be a need to fill that void. Logically it would make sense for FOX to push for NXT to run weekly on FS1, it’s being said that WWE wants to keep NXT programming as a WWE Network Exclusive.
It was also mentioned that those who have been involved in the process have said that the move to FS1 will NOT be happening.
The idea of airing a SmackDown LIVE pre-show, as well as a Post-PPV show Sunday nights following WWE PPV’s has also been discussed.
In addition, an idea has been pitched of running a weekly show on Wednesday’s similar to UFC Tonight which currently airs on FS1. The issue with doing a weekly UFC Tonight style show, but WWE themed instead is that programming on FS1 of that nature are usually geared to a more journalistic approach. WWE will of course want their programming to be more “worked” as opposed to having a more newish feel, where they are really discussing the business.
