Top NJPW Will Miss Around A Year Of Action Due To Injury
As we previously reported, top NJPW Star and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi suffered a serious injury last month at the G1 Special in San Fransisco, when he suffered a broken neck in his match against Dragon Lee. Takahashi’s neck was broken when was on the receiving end of a Phoenix-Plex from Dragon Lee. Takahashi was still somehow able to finish the match and retain his IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title. Following the match, Takahashi reportedly collapsed backstage, and was rushed to a nearby medical facility.
In the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was reported that doctors for New Japan believe that Takahashi will be out of action for around 9-12 months.
It is not exactly known what NJPW plans to do with the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title, however it is expected that the company will have to strip Takahashi of the belt. Although no official announcement has been made regarding the future of the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title.
We will keep you updated if we hear anything more regarding the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title, and the health status of Hiromu Takahashi.
