Raw Recap For August 13th, 2018
(Segment 1) Ronda Kicks Off Raw: Ronda immediately talks about Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart and she got emotional. It was great for Rousey to kick off Raw and pay tribute to Jim. Ronda then introduced Ember Moon as Alexa Bliss’ opponent for the next match.
(Segment 2) Alexa Bliss vs Ember Moon: Ember Moon replaced Natalya who is grieving the loss of her father. I think this match would be better but it sucks it has to change this way. This match was alright but having Ember Moon in the match helps a lot because she is a great performer. Ember Moon won via DQ after Alicia Fox attacked her in the ring after she hit the Eclipse on Alexa.
(Segment 3) Baron Corbin vs Tyler Breeze: Baron Corbin has been great in his new role and has been receiving a big push. He beat Tyler Breeze in a short match after he hit the Deep Six. I think these two could actually put on good matches when given time and effort.
(Segment 4) Braun Strowman and Finn Balor vs Kevin Owens and Jinder Mahal: This match was originally supposed to be a handicap match but turned into a tag team match after Angle said he’ll add Braun to the match and make it a tag team match playa! This was a really fun match that moved us into the second hour. I liked how these teams worked and it was really entertaining. Balor and Strowman won via pinfall after Braun pinned Mahal.
(Segment 5) Revival vs B-Team vs Deleter Of Worlds (Raw Tag Titles): This match was set to have a lot of action and good spots. It had really good action all over the place and kept the high pace of Raw up. This title match added to the night and really went over. The B-Team ended up retaining after the Revival hit the Shatter Machine on Bray Wyatt but were thrown out of the ring by the B-Team. This caused Axel to cover Wyatt for the win.
(Segment 6) Roman Reigns Promo: Roman came out and talked about how he doesn’t like Brock and the usual stuff he says about Lesnar. Paul Heyman came out and was playing victim as a show for Roman to join him as a partner. This was all a play to have Heyman pepper spray him and have Lesnar come out and attack Reigns. This was actually a good segment and helped the match more. I think this match is going to be good this Sunday.
(Segment 7) Mojo Rawley and AOP vs Bobby Roode and Titus Worldwide: I really didn’t expect much from this match and didn’t have high hopes for it. Bobby Roode and company took the win in a quick and boring match, not a lot to say about it.
(Segment 8) Sasha Banks vs Ruby Riott: I actually had high hopes for this match because these two can actually work when given time and effort by the creative team. They performed well with the time they were given. Ruby focused on Sasha’s hand a lot and did some damage to it. Riott rolled up Sasha for the pinfall victory. I would like to see more from these two in the future.
(Segment 9) IC Title Contract Signing: Everyone knows how contract signings go in the WWE and they don’t end with smiles and a picture. They have been building up to this for a couple days now and there was a lot of buzz around it with Dean being in the mix. Dolph signed the contract after some talking and then Seth came out. He then said that someone will be in his corner and then Dean came out to help Rollins take out Drew and Dolph. It was a really good ending to Raw.
