Update On Daniel Bryan’s Contract Status

Daniel Bryan’s WWE contract status has been one of the most talked about subjects in wrestling for some time.

It has been reported that Daniel Bryan’s WWE contract was set to expire on September 1st, and that he would become a free agent if the two sides were unable to come to terms on a new deal.

Earlier in the week, it was reported that Daniel Bryan and Vince McMahon had a closed door meeting Sunday prior to SummerSlam. The meeting was said to have lasted nearly three hours, two hours and forty-six minutes long actually, according to sources. During the meeting it was also reported that Bryan was offered another revised contract, but the two parties were again unable to comes to terms on a deal.

As we saw on last night’s SmackDown, the feud between Daniel Bryan and The Miz continued to escalate to the point in which Brie Bella eventually made her way out from the back, charging to the ring and attacking Maryse. This altercation ultimately led to a match announcement for the upcoming Hell in a Cell Pay-Per-View. A mixed tag team matchup between The Miz & Maryse and the team of Daniel Bryan & Brie Bella.

The match announcement was very note worthy, as Hell in a Cell takes place on Sunday, September 16th which is 15 days after Daniel Bryan’s current contract is said to expire.

Last night I was a special guest co-host on Barn Burner’s No Holds Barred podcast, during the show Daniel Bryan’s rejected contract offers and and future was discussed. During the segment Joseph Peisich mentioned that Daniel Bryan had another meeting with Vince McMahon earlier in the day before Tuesday’s SmackDown tapings and that he was offered another contract.

Peisich added that he had heard but could not confirm, that Daniel Bryan either signed a new deal prior SmackDown, or that he planned on signing afterward instead. This indeed would appear to be true, as the match announcement last night falls 15 days after Daniel’s current WWE contract expires.

Regarding Daniel Bryan’s WWE status, Peisich said:

“Daniel Bryan had a meeting with Vince McMahon and he did not sign a deal but I have heard that but couldn’t confirm this but he either signed deal prior to SmackDown or will sign it after SmackDown. That’s why they went ahead with the mixed tag match at Hell in a Cell.”

You can listen to the entire episode of the No Holds Barred podcast featuring myself as a special gust host, below.

Recently Daniel Bryan revealed in an interview that the reason he had yet to sign a new contract was because he was having a Lawyer look it over first. Last week in another interview, Bryan teased that he may very well be signing his new contract very soon.
