Reason For WWE Securing Rights To So Many Old WCW Trademarks
It has been no secret that WWE has been trying to secure the rights to old WCW trademarks. WWE brought back Starrcade last year, which had many hoping that we would see more old WCW themed events brought back in the future. However, that doesn’t appear to the the plan..
WWE recently lost the War Games name, which they had previously used in NXT, to Court Bauer and his MLW promotion. Bauer trademarked the name, and MLW ran their War Games event last month. It was reported in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE wasn’t happy about losing the name and the company doesn’t want this to happen again.
While even though, WWE is filing for numerous old nostalgia-themed event names, it doesn’t appear they are planning on bringing back any throwback events like they did last year with Starrcade. It is basically just a matter of Vince McMahon not wanting anyone else to use them.
