Chris Jericho & Jim Ross Rumored To Be Opening New Wrestling Promotion In Near Future
It appears as though plans are in motion for two of wrestling’s top personalities to open a new wrestling promotion in the near future.
According to a report from SEScoops, Jim Ross and Chris Jericho have been working with agent Barry Bloom to establish and open a new wrestling promotion. The company is said to have financial backing from the Khan family. Shahid Khan you may know as the owner of NFL team the Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham F.C. of the English Premier League. Tony Khan, Shahid’s son, is a known wrestling fan and is reported to be “hands-on with getting this project off the ground.” It was noted that Tony also follows numerous pro wrestlers on twitter as well, including The ELITE – Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega, Matt & Nick Jackson – The Young Bucks, and Marty Scurll.
The report also stated that Jim Ross’s WWE contract expires shortly, and that JR has declined the company’s offer to renew his deal. It was stated that Ross has been sending out feelers to select WWE talent, and that Chris Jericho has been handling things on the New Japan Pro Wrestling side of things in relation to this deal.
The report also claimed that Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks, along with Adam “Hangman” Page and a few others are said to be on board with the project. It was also noted that Kenny Omega’s status regarding the project is not known. They also claim that when The Elite have been talking about sticking together next year, that this project is what they have been referring too.
It was pointed out how Jim Ross has been coy about the project on his Ross Report podcast, and that he has been vaguely been teasing that there is something big on the horizon. It was also noted that Barry Blood is the agent of both Chris Jericho and Jim Ross, and that interestingly enough WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg is also a client of his.
It was also reported that talks are underway with television network AXS TV in attempt to secure a TV deal, and that AXS TV executive Adam Swift is fast-tracking the project.
The projected timeline for their project to go live is reported as being 12 to 16 months, or late 2019 and early 2020.
