Why Dean Ambrose Heel Turn Happened Last Night Instead Of When It Was Originally Planned

Last night on RAW we saw an emotional embrace between members of The Shield following Roman Reigns shocking and emotional announcement that his leukemia has returned after initially being diagnosed with the disease 11 years ago. We then saw Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins challenge the RAW Tag Team Champions Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler for the titles in the main event.

Ambrose and Rollins were victorious in their title match last night, and The Shield was once again RAW Tag Team Champions. Following the match, during their celebration Ambrose turned on Rollins kicking him in the gut and then connecting with dirty deeds in the middle of the ring. Ambrose would then proceed to viciously pound away with rights and lefts to the head and face of Rollins, before throwing him outside to the floor. From there Ambrose’s attack did not stop as he threw Rollins into the time keeper area and continued to brutally attack his former friend. After that Ambrose threw RAW Tag Team Titles down at Rollins and exited the arena through the crowd.

Ambrose’s previous heel turn had been rumored to supposedly take place around the time of this years WrestleMania 34, however he was still out recovering from a torn triceps. The rumors and tease of his oncoming heel turn picked up again lately, and as we saw last night WWE finally pulled the trigger and had Dean make the turn. However, apparently Ambrose’s heel turn was not supposed to happen so soon.

Dean Ambrose heel turn last night on RAW was discussed on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Live, and Bryan Alvarez was not very pleased with the way WWE went through with the heel turn. During the discussion Alvarez not only noted how serious the situation regarding Roman Reigns upcoming battle with leukemia really is, but he also revealed when the Ambrose heel turn was originally supposed to take place.

Regarding Dean Ambrose turning heel on Seth Rollins the same night as Roman Reigns emotional leukemia announcement, Alvarez said:

“He wasn’t even supposed to turn heel last night. The actual plan was that he was going to turn around Survivor Series and they moved it up and they specifically did it to capitalize on the emotions of a guy who’s home to fight for his life.”
