WWE Evolution will see the conclusion of the Mae Young Classic, as Io Shirai faces off against Toni Storm. Tegan Fox was scheduled to be in the match but due to injury, she had to be taken off.
On Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez explained what will most likely happen after the finals of the Mae Young Classic. This is what he said:
“For some reason I just think they’re going to do Kairi Sane vs Io Shirai because when Io Sharai won her Mae Young Tournament match, Kairi was there to give her flowers and the announcers made a very big deal about how they were long-time friends and now they’re here together and Michael Cole predicted Toni Storm will win so I think all signs point to Io Shirai winning and an Io Sharai vs Kairi Sane match for the title.”
“So I think Kairi is going to beat Shayna and Io Shirai is going to beat Toni Storm and I think they’re both going to be very good matches.”
The winner of the Mae Young classic gets an NXT Women’s Title shot. Just like how Kairi Sane got it last year. So this time we just might get Sane vs Shirai, which would be an instant classic as they are two of the best female wrestlers currently and have proven themselves in Japan.
