NXT UK Recap: Episode 08(11/14/18 hour 2)
- And like magic once again a week has passed in only a few minutes, which means it’s time to talk more NXT UK. This week we start the Women’s title tournament, Trent Seven fights Zack Gibson, and Tyson T-Bone debuts
- So I didn’t get a chance to break down the bracket yet, so let’s talk about it. Dakota Kai fights Nina Samuels, Rhea Ripley fights Xia Brookside, Millie McKenzie fights Jinny, and Isla Dawn fights Toni Storm. A lot of really good potential in this field, as all eight of these women I’ve seen put on great matches.
Progress Report: At Chapter 76 Jinny, Toni Storm and Millie McKenzie had a great triple threat that is certainly worth watching.
Match One: NXT UK Women’s Championship Tournament Quarterfinal: Dakota Kai vs Nina Samuels
- I’ve never listened to Nina Samuels’s music, but boy is it good, like really really good
- Match starts with Nina throwing Kai around a bit, before Kai finally gets one of those killer kicks in
- Nina hits a really innovative dropkick to the lower back as Kai is wrapped up in the ropes
- Nina is just wrenching Kai’s arms in a sick submission hold and then hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker
- Kai’s dropkick is a thing of beauty, Kai’s kicks in general are a thing of beauty
- Kai wins with her finisher, the, and I hope I’m spelling this right, the Kai-ropracter
Winner, advancing to the semi-finals: Dakota Kai
- Dave Mastiff and Tyson T-Bone will both be in action tonight
- Mark Andrews get interviewed backstage saying he’s moving past the Coffeys and that he wants gold, but Flash Morgan Webster offers to team with him for the Tag Titles, and Andrews says it’s not a bad idea
- Ashton Smith gets interviewed about his loss to Wolfgang before Eddie Dennis interrupts telling Smith if he wants some tips to watch him next week, and Smith says maybe he will
Match Two: Jake Constantinou vs Tyson T-Bone
- I’m going to bet this match goes under two minutes, let’s see
- T-Bone just throwing Jake around the ring, and when Jake does get a hold of him hits a big back elbow
- Big kick and drop elbow but somehow Jake kicks out two different times
- By my count we were right at two minutes when T-Bone wins with a lariat
Winner: Tyson T-Bone
- T-Bone asks if that’s a joke, if that’s the best they have to offer. He leaves the ring, but out comes Dave Mastiff, whoops
- Bell rings and Dave Mastiff starts walking to ring for his match walking past T-Bone saying watch this. There’s a lot of watching people in this episode
Match Three: Dan Moloney vs Dave Mastiff
- This Mastiff/T-Bone thing reminds me Baron Corbin and Bull Dempsey, I like it
- Moloney tries to take down Mastiff but can’t even irish whip him after a big flurry of moves from Moloney
- Mastiff is a large scary man, and that busterbomb is terrifying
- I decided to keep track, thinking Mastiff would try to win faster than T-Bone, the match lasted less than 80 seconds.
Winner: Dave Mastiff
- Yikes, they showed the women’s tournament bracket and Nina got erased from the image, that is brutal. Looks like they’ll keep that graphic going
- Sid Scala backstage asked what he needs to change or evolve. He needs to go back to the drawing board, but needs just one more match. He needs to sit down with Johnny Saint and ask for that chance
Match Four: NXT UK Women’s Championship Tournament Quarterfinal: Jinny vs Millie McKenzie
- These two are no strangers to each other, and this should be a good match
- Millie starts the match strong and Jinny finally gets back into it
- Jinny taking a much more ground and pound approach
- Lots of elbows from Millie McKenzie until Jinny locks on a brutal submission
- Jinny stomps Millie into the mat
- Millie hit a spear! Not bad move at all and something I’ve never seen her hit
- Millie has gone full Brock on us with her release German suplexes
- Jinny hits a ripcord rolling kick of some kind and gets the win
Winner, advancing to the semi-finals: Jinny
- Replay of Devlin beating Scala and calling out Ligero
- Promo from Ligero about being inspired to work hard to beat the bigger guys, he calls himself a hybrid of lucha and British strong style
- Next week Ligero takes on Jordan Devlin
- Gibson out and it looks like our main event is starting
- Gibson on the mic before Seven comes out, and of course he is Liverpool’s number one, soooooooooon to be recognized as NXT UK’s number one
Match Five: Zack Gibson vs Trent Seven
- These two know each other very well, and this match is already off to a great start
- Seven cartwheels to avoid Gibson and gets in a couple chops
- Gibson gets out of the ring and tries to leave but out comes Bate who intimidates Gibson back into the ring and right into a chop from Seven
- Bate is now at ringside and Gibson chops Seven right in the throat
- Gibson just tearing Seven apart limb from limb
- Gibson hits a key lock driver on Seven and Seven kicks out
- Gibson’s offense is just so innovative I love it
- Gibson tries to lock in Shambly gates but can’t get it
- Yikes Gibson is brutal, lots of nearfalls in this match
- Bate distracts Gibson at ringside and lets Seven hit the Seven Star Lariat for a nearfall
- Drake shows up at ringside and throws Bate into the steps before helping Gibson get the win
Winner: Zack Gibson
- Looks like Grizzled Young Vets versus Mustache Mountain is on
- Oh crap the Scottish lads are here jumping Mustache Mountain
- Show ends with the Scottish lads standing tall
