205 Live Recap: Episode 103
Last week on 205 Live: Lucha House Party proved they were smarter than before when they beat TJP and Mike Kanellis by bringing extra masks to the ring. Lio Rush was showcased. Buddy Murphy put on a helluva match against Mark Andrews, proving why Murphy is The Man in 205 Live.
Cold Open
Drake Maverick says that Buddy Murphy and Mustafa Ali look to steal the show at Survivor Series in their cruiserweight championship match. Tonight Akira Tozawa and Brian Kendrick take on Drew Gulak and Jack Gallagher. Then we get a dream match up between Cedric Alexander and Lio Rush. Mainly because Lio showed up at the Performance Center. Lio says “you’re training with the rookies” as the camera panned to Steve Corino.
Gentleman Jack Gallagher and Drew Gulak vs. Akira Tozawa and The Brian Kendrick
- Akira and Kendrick get a promo before the match starts. They let us know that they were enemies before, but the enemy of an enemy is a friend.
- I really miss The Brian Kendrick’s pirate flag.
- Drew was gonna start the match but he tagged in Gallagher instead.
- I know that Mattel needed a new color for Sheamus’ skin when they made Sheamus’ action figure. I wonder if they needed a new one for Jack. I feel like Jack is more pale. It’s close between Jack, Sheamus and Aiden English
- Kendrick is wrestling with a lot of intensity and is able to gain the advantage on both Gulak and Gallagher for a bit. Until teamwork comes into play.
- Gallagher is at his best when he is on offense. After a flurry of vicious punches, Jack works over Kendrick’s leg/ankle with some wince inducing submissions.
- Tozawa is able to receive the tag and lit up Gulak and Gallagher.
- Kendrick proves to be a great teammate by knocking down Gallagher when Jack was trying to knock Akira off the top rope.
- Gallagher was able to throw Kendrick into Tozawa and that led to a little bit of tense vibes. Gulak capitalized on the miscommunication by getting the pin on Tozawa.
And I’m Like… Very simple story but it worked. Gulak and Gallagher have been a team for a while. Tozawa still has animosity towards Kendrick for Brian’s past transgressions. Everyone wrestled well and it was a fun match.
The weigh in’s for the championship match was shown. Buddy Murphy is at 204 pounds and Mustafa Ali is 180. That led to some slapping and yelling. Adam Pearce was there though. He broke up the brawl between the women on Raw this week and the Daniel Bryan/Aj Styles brawl on Smackdown Live. Adam is playing peacekeeper in WWE. I meant Pearcekeeper….
Buddy Murphy says he almost feels bad for Mustafa Ali after what is going to happen to him at Survivor Series.
Mike Karma & Kraig Keesamen vs. Lucha House Party
- I get that Lucha House Party is for the kids, but man are they dweebs.
- I read this week that Mike Karma is actually Evan Bourne aka Matt Sydal’s brother Mike Sydal
- Kalisto and Lince Dorado dominate the match while hitting tons of cool double team moves. Then they go and ruin themselves when Kalisto does the floss dance. It’s like TJP’s dab from two years ago all over again.
- Maria Kanellis cuts a promo on LHP on the titantron. About how TJP is facing Gran Metalik next week.
And I’m Like… It’s the obligatory 205 Live showcase match. Not too much to really say. Besides the fact that LHP are a bunch of nerds.
Cedric Alexander says that wrestling is just a game to Lio Rush but it’s Alexander’s life.
Cedric Alexander vs. Lio Rush
- The best thing about Lio Rush is his entrance song. That’s a song I’ve sent non-wrestling fans to listen to because it slaps that hard.
- Lio Rush made the mistake o standing next to a what looks to be twelve year old. He should stay away from large children. Doesn’t really help the image.
- The match starts with some trash talking and a feeling out process. ” Let’s go Lio/ Lio Sucks” chant. That’s not good for Cedric. That’s an all Lio chant. Raw exposure seems to help. Too bad 205 guys aren’t featured on that show anymore.
- The boys get an applause from the crowd after doing a counter sequence. Lio finally takes Cedric to the ground and slaps Cedric in the face.
- Rush is getting the best of Cedric and asks Alexander “you gonna cry?”. Which Alexander answered with a dropkick that Nigel said was “through the jaw”. Such a good dropkick that it even got the replay.
- Watching Cedric hit his offense just made me say “Cedric is good as hell” out loud.
- Lio is able to take the momentum on the outside of the ring. Since Rush and Alexander were going move for move at the same speed, Lio decides to apply a chinlock to slow down Alexander and maybe gas him a bit so Lio has some sort of advantage.
- This match is pretty evenly wrestled. I don’t know if that means Lio is championship material, or if the “I am in a slump” storyline from Cedric has dropped his overall wrestling ability.
- Lio goes for The Final Hour but Cedric ducks. Cedric attempts the Lumbar Check but is almost reversed. The reversal looks like it about ended in a Ganso Bomb. After a few impressive moves by both men Cedric hit the Lumbar Check for the win.
And I’m Like… That was the most I’ve enjoyed a Lio Rush match. Both men are great wrestlers and this match showed it. It was weird seeing two Spanish Fly’s in the same match though. This show wasn’t much for storytelling, but 205 Live isn’t known for that really. The wrestling speaks for itself.
