Last night was New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 13 event, which saw all eight title belts change hands. The night was a pivotal one for the company, as the promotion appears to once again be going through a transition after seemingly seeing the departure of some of NJPW’s Top Stars after this weekend’s shows.
One of the Champions who saw his title reign come to an end inside the Tokyo Dome at Wrestle Kingdom 13 was Yujiro Kushida. Kushida’s title loss was and rumored future was a discussion on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. Dave Meltzer talked about WWE’s belief that Kushida is on his way to the company.
Regarding Kushida’s potential WWE future, Meltzer said:
“I think the big question everyone has is what does that have to do with Kushida. WWE’s strong after Kushida and they seem to think that he’s coming. So we’ll find out if he signs or he doesn’t sign.”
Over the last few years Wrestle Kingdom weekend has marked the final appearances for many of NJPW’s Stars before leaving the promotion and signing with WWE. With once again multiple contracts said to be expiring following Wrestle Kingdom Weekend, rumors of WWE raiding the New Japan locker room are in full force.
