AEW Reported To Be Manipulating Media For Marketing Purposes
Yesterday in Jacksonville, Florida, All Elite Wrestling held their Double or Nothing Rally. Announcements were made regarding the company’s debut event “Double or Nothing” in Las Vegas, their women’s division, talent initially signed, and surprises of new talent announced that will be signing with the company.
AEW made some major moves when Chris Jericho, and former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville, who is now once again going by his previous ringname PAC, appeared and announced their involvement with the promotion. In addition, as we previously reported former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega is said to have decided to sign with AEW when his contract with NJPW is up at the end of the month.
The potential signing of Kenny Omega has been a huge topic of conversation recently as it was also reported that WWE had offered Omega a huge multi-million dollar deal, which was also said to include promise of a WWE Championship run, and more. However, according to a report from Brad Shepard on the latest “Oh, You Didn’t Know” podcast that his source in WWE has told him that a “certain well-known dirt sheet writer” is said to be working with All Elite Wrestling in an attempt to manipulate the media by boosting the perceived value and overall impact that the signing of Omega would be.
Regarding AEW using the media for their own marketing purpose, Shepard said:
“So I was talking to a source in WWE about this, obviously I’ve talked about this on our show as well, Jon. I was told that I’m on point with what I’ve been talking about to this point. Dave’s reporting on certain free agent Superstars turning down offers in the millions is a tactic to boost their perceived value and make it seem like it’s a big get and very favorable for All Elite Wrestling.”
“So it boosts their name value and makes them a bigger deal than they are. I find the entire thing very unethical, but from an ownership point from All Elite Wrestling, it is a smart marketing ploy.”
“They’re co-opting the media, they’re controlling the narrative and they’re trying to present a picture that there is an impending war between the two like they’re a bigger deal than they are again to put the narrative in their favor.”
You can listen to Brad Shepards remarks about AEW using the wrestling media around the 43:00 minute mark.
