Rusev On No Longer Having A Gimmick In WWE
Rusev started his WWE career wearing a loincloth and no boots, but he eventually changed that. He also no longer has Lana yelling ”Crush” as she has dropped her Russian accent. He has changed a lot during his time in the company.
Rusev spoke to Sportskeeda, where he talked about his gimmick and said he is just being himself right now and isn’t working with a gimmick, unlike the past. Here is what he said:
“I’m always having fun. It’s never been about a good guy or a bad guy. I’ve always been me. And that’s what people don’t understand. Just because I supported Russia before because that was my belief or understanding, that doesn’t mean I was a bad guy.”
“I was just outspoken about what I believe in. And now, instead of Russia, I believe in Rusev Day. And being the best United States Champion I can be. That’s what I believe in.”
“There’s no character. There’s no gimmick. It’s just me.”
Rusev won the United States Title last month on Smackdown Live to a huge pop. Rusev is scheduled to defend his United States Title against Shinsuke Nakamura at the Royal Rumble. However, the match got pushed to the kickoff show. We will have to wait and see if his reign continues.
