Dolph Ziggler’s status in WWE is still a big question right now. So Ziggler recently spoke to Chris Van Vliet and cleared all the doubts. Dolph is a 15-year veteran in the WWE, but it looks like he will be taking a break from the company to pursue other opportunities.
Dolph said he is still under contract with WWE, but he will not be competing at the Royal Rumble since he is booked for a comedy show a couple of blocks away from the Chase Field Arena on Sunday.
”Technically I am still under contract, but I am not scheduled to be at the Royal Rumble tomorrow. I have a show after at Stand-Up Live.”
Ziggler’s contract with WWE is different from the norm. He explained how he has a complicated life and so WWE allowed him the freedom to pursue stand-up comedy as well as other interests. So he is cleared to take part in those activities.
“It becomes a gray area because I have a weird life even for a wrestler so as of now there’s a couple different handshake agreements involved in some things sometimes it’s not written on paper, so I’ve been very able to do outside projects. Movies, shows, comedy, and a bunch of different things with my brother which is really fun. Because of never besmirching the WWE’s name and doing positive things they let me do more, and more, and more so I’ll be continuing to do some things like that.”
Ziggler also confirmed he is on a hiatus from WWE. While it might not be a permanent one, he is open to see how things proceed. It’s just not the time to be in the ring for him.
“I can’t really answer that and I don’t want to make some fake thing or some sly thing. For now, I am on a hiatus from WWE. It took me like ten years to get a weekend off and this is it. So we’ll see how it goes. Like I said it’s a handshake different thing than what’s on paper and I’ve given everything and we’ll see if there is more for me to give and I’d be happy to do it.”
Dolph also said that if WWE intends to keep him, it’ll only be as a wrestler. While he does see himself becoming a producer ten years down the line, he has no intention of doing it right now.
