Are We Being Worked By News Of Dean Ambrose Intent To Leave WWE?
News broke yesterday that Dean Ambrose has informed WWE that he intends to leave the company will not be re-signing when his contract expires in April. WWE confirmed the new yesterday afternoon when they released an official statement acknowledging Ambrose intentions to leave the company once his current deal expires.
However, the handling of this news by WWE has led many to speculate as to whether or not the whole ordeal with Dean Ambrose leaving the company is legit or if it is a work.
On the latest episode of the “Oh, You Didn’t Know” podcast Brad Shepard talks about the situation surrounding Dean Ambrose informing WWE that he isn’t re-signing and will be leaving the company. According to Brad, the Ambrose news is legit and he does indeed plan to leave WWE once his current contract expires.
Regarding Dean Ambrose, Shepard said:
“There is a lot of speculation about Dean Ambrose and his WWE deal. Now Wade Keller first reported that Dean Ambrose would be leaving WWE after his contract expires in April. There was a lot of subsequent speculation after that statement saying he would be leaving the company and they wished him the best when his contract was up.”
“You know the booking on Raw where he’s kind of getting into something with Hunter. They’re kind of teasing something there. People are kind of speculating, is this a work, is this a shoot? Are they doing this to work everybody?”
“Well, I have the answer to that unequivocally the Dean Ambrose story is legit. He is intent on leaving WWE when his contract expires. That is true, that is not a work. Now they may work something into the storyline based on reality because the story is out, but he is legitimately planning on leaving the company when his contract is up.”
“Now they have some time to figure things out. So they have a couple months. Maybe they figure it out, maybe they don’t, but his intent right now is to leave WWE.”
The way in which WWE handled the news of Dean Ambrose informing the company of his intentions to leave and not re-sign was definitely different than how the company has dealt with news leaks like this in the past. When previously WWE has ignored or no-sold the reports, this time they issued a public statement addressing the situation.
This change in WWE’s handling of the news getting out about Ambrose from how they have done so in the past, was also discussed by Shepard. He mentions that this could be WWE changing their whole approach the news leaking, however it should not give fans any more hope that this is a work.
“This is one of the reasons why there is so much speculation because that is not the WWE MO because we recently saw them confirm with Ronda Rousey that she’s under contract until 2021 when a story came out with Dave Meltzer that she was going to finish up after WrestleMania. They produced that.”
“Then the story about Dean Ambrose gets out and they issue a statement about that. So those two instances we’ve seen a change recently on how they handle those situations. So for that based on the history, I can understand the question of is this a work, is this a shoot? It’s pro wrestling so I get it and I think the history of how they’ve handled it raises those questions and rightfully so.”
They went on to talk about how possibly if Dean was given some creative control over his character that he could potentially be convinced to stay. But again, this doesn’t seem very likely as Vince McMahon still has the final say in everything.
