Update On Why Asuka Has Been Kept Off WWE TV
Asuka retained her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble when she defeated Becky Lynch via submission. However, since her successful title defense at the Royal Rumble Asuka has barely been featured on WWE TV.
The SmackDown LIVE Women’s Championship will also not be defended at Sunday’s Elimination Chamber PPV, and Asuka is not booked for the card. While this has seemingly bothered a lot of WWE fans, apparently there is a good reason that WWE has kept Asuka off of TV and the Elimination Chamber.
According to a report from Wrestle Votes, WWE does in fact have a plan for Asuka at WrestleMania 35, however her opponent isn’t currently available for her. Regarding WWE’s plans for Asuka, Wrestle Votes said:
“Been getting a ton of Asuka questions. As far as I know, they do have a plan for Mania. Just wasn’t wise for Asuka to be featured the last few weeks. WWE doesn’t want excessive “brand jumping” prior to WM, leaving only Lana or Vega for Chamber. That’s not a PPV matchup WWE wanted.”
With that being said, it would appear that WWE’s planned opponent for Asuka at WrestleMania 35 is either one of the participants of Sunday’s Women’s Tag Team Title Elimination Chamber match, or it is a Superstar on the RAW roster and WWE doesn’t want to water down the “brand jumping.”
