Tommaso Ciampa was NXT Champion when he suffered a neck injury and he needed surgery. It was just unfortunate timing, but a new NXT Champion had to be determined.
During the NXT tapings tonight in Full Sail Arena, Triple H gave fans the answer regarding the NXT Title picture. He announced that Johnny Gargano will compete for the NXT Title at NXT TakeOver: New York in a 2 out of 3 falls match in order to determine the new NXT Champion.
To find out who would be challenging Gargano, a match was made between Ricochet, Adam Cole, Aleister Black, Matt Riddle and Velveteen Dream during the tapings. Adam Cole ended up winning the match.
So, Johnny Gargano vs Adam Cole has been made official for NXT TakeOver: New York, where the winner will become the new NXT Champion.
