Why WWE took the Smackdown Women’s Championship off Asuka
This past Tuesday on Smackdown Live, Asuka dropped the Smackdown Women’s Championship to Charlotte Flair just two weeks before WrestleMania 35.
This move puzzled many people especially because the planned match was a four-way number one contenders match to face Asuka at Mania.
Tom Colohue of PW Torch tweeted the following stating that WWE lost confidence in Asuka and what the planned match was for the former Smackdown Women’s Champion.
To my knowledge the plan for #Wrestlemania for the #SDLive women's championship was Asuka vs Rose vs Deville with Asuka retaining.#WWE lost confidence in the match and decided to put the belt on Charlotte instead. https://t.co/9JFD07XHx9

Colohue also had a follow up tweet regarding the support Asuka is getting and what the future direction can be for her.
I'm told that #WWE creative are very happy with the fan response to Asuka losing the #sdlive women's title.
Further proof of her continually growing support will encourage them to give her more title opportunities in the future.
