Update On Botched WrestleMania 35 Finish
The Main Event of WrestleMania 35 featured a Winner Take All Match between Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch for both the RAW and SmackDown Women’s Titles. This was the first time ever that women had headlined on “the grandest stage of them all,” unfortunately the finish of the match was barred with controversy.
During the finish of the match Ronda picked Becky up on her shoulder and went to execute her slam, but was caught instead in a crucifix from Becky Lynch who scored the pinfall over the RAW Women’s Champ, although Rousey’s shoulder were not on the mat.
Rumors and speculation have been running wild all over the internet ever since WrestleMania 35 went off the air over the alleged botched finish to the Main Event. In an update, it now appears as though the finish we saw, was indeed the planned finish of the match – only Ronda’s shoulders were not supposed to come up off the mat.
Brad Shepard has reported that this was the planned finish all along, and that was the same finish that they practiced during the pre-show walk-thru rehearsal. Shepard wrote:
As a follow-up, I spoke with a source in #WWE about the botch in the #WrestleMania main event. The ending was supposed to be Becky pinning Ronda just as it happened, only Ronda’s shoulders were supposed to be down. In the walk-thru rehearsal, this was the same ending.
