Don Callis & Scott D’Amore of IMPACT Wrestling on the company’s future, one year later

Don Callis and Scott D’Amore took part in the IMPACT Wrestling media interview session at the United We Stand event in Rahway, New Jersey. IMPACT’s Co-Executive Vice Presidents took questions on the signing of Rob Van Dam, working with other wrestling promotions and the future IMPACT.

Don Callis on working with other wrestling companies like MLW- “We’re open to working with anybody. The paradigm of pro wrestling where we don’t work with you, we only work with you, we only work with him or her or whatever is very dated thinking and the promotions that are still doing that sort of thing I think are going to have challenges moving forward.”

Jeff Martin of HSP- What has been the major change with IMPACT Wrestling this past year?

Don Callis- “I think that when we came on there was a real negative stigma around the brand and one of the things we wanted to do was change that. I think that we were able to that faster than we originally anticipated and that’s a testament to all of the stars on the roster. If you think at the Top 8 on our roster, we really had to remake that Top 8. I think the only top, top guy that was still here from before was Eddie Edwards. You talk about the Brian Cage’s, Johnny Impact, Penta, Fenix, Sami Callahan, and more to come, like Rob Van Dam obviously.”

Jeff Martin of HSP- Is the morale the best that’s ever been at IMPACT Wrestling?

Scott D’Amore- “That’s hard to say right? So I left in 2008 and I came back briefly as a favor in late 2009 and I filled in for a few months. So when I came back it had been ten years since I was last here. I heard a lot of stuff but didn’t see it first hand. I know that when we walked in here last year there were a lot of sunken faces and more so than anything I don’t know if morale was down I thinks spirits were down which is maybe the same thing, but I’d seen disgruntled locker rooms where people were pissed off and angry, I think here there were a lot of people that were scared, they were scared because they didn’t what the future held for them because if IMPACT Wrestling went away I think it was going to negatively affect a lot of people in the wrestling industry and obviously a lot of the people involved in this company and our locker room clearly. So if there’s one thing that I’m proud of and Don & Ed, you know we’re all proud of everybody at ANTHEM is that there’s no more talk of going away we’ve established the first part of our plan… stability.”
