Eleven years ago, to this day, the greatest wrestling promo of the 21st century happened. People talk about the “Pipe Bomb” “This Is My Yard” promos, they talk about The Miz’ star making promo on Talking Smack, Batista’s “Give Me What I Want”, but nothing compares to Scott Steiner’s Math promo.
Impact Wrestling took to social media earlier today to remember and honor this infamous moment in the company’s history. You can see their tweet below.
The promo has crossed over to meme status. With many people mad libbing in lines to make their own statements matter more.
Genius the lyric website even has a page dedicated to it.
Wrestlers like Big E have tried their hand at it.
Petey Williams shared what it was like to witness it first hand.
When we filmed that, it was one take…pre-taped beforehand. I had no idea what Scott was going to say. I knew that I had one line at the end of the promo. When it first started, the math kinda made sense. And then, he starts stumbling over his words and the math isn’t adding up.
If you watch me, I’m looking at Vince Russo and the other producers and asking- ‘Are we still filming this? I guess we still are.’ I didn’t know it would be this epic thing that people would quote and they would have a transcript of it, dictating everything that he said.
But what was great is that at the past pay-per-view that we had, ‘Redemption’, in April, I started doing some math problems and Scott Steiner came in and started talking math. People remember it and I absolutely love it.
