Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Comments On Cody Rhodes Talking About AEW & Diversity
All Elite Wrestling officially kicked off their promotion with their debut event “Double or Nothing” last night from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Following Double Or Nothing, Cody Rhodes took part in the media scrum where he fielded questions from the media. During the questioning Cody was asked about making All Elite Wrestling as diverse as possible. Cody responded by telling a story involving his wife Brandi, and their experience together as an interracial couple and how that has helped his viewpoint and how he addresses diversity. Cody’s statement caught the attention of congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Cody said:
“Well, I’m in an interracial marriage and I’ve learned a lot that I would’ve never known. One time I told Brandi, I said ‘I don’t see color’ and she said ‘well you don’t see my experience.’ And I thought ‘oh, you’re right, I can’t just say that.’ You need to be able to see that experience and at least understand it. The old territory system of ‘just one,’ and a lot of folks may remember that, that’s gone. That’s out, the best wrestlers are gonna field the game and that’s a very diverse profile and I’m really proud of it.”
This drew a comment and RT from the NY Representative, who stated:
“This exchange is a promising peek into what growth looks like in our national discourse on race.
Thanks for sharing your experience in this powerful moment, @CodyRhodes.”
