WWE Reportedly Adds Name Of Famous Finishing Move To List Of Banned Words

As you may or may not know, there is a list of words that you are not allowed to use on WWE TV, this goes for both in-ring performers as well as the announce and interview teams. The reason the words have been “banned” by WWE is really unique for each word, but bottom line Vince McMahon has decided they are off limits.

It seems as though there is a new term or word that has been added to WWE’s banned list.

According to a report from Dave Meltzer on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE has now added the codebreaker to the list of words or phrases that company employees are no longer allowed to say on TV. So when a wrestler such as Ricochet uses that maneuver, the announcers will not be allowed to call the move the codebreaker. What they will decide to start referring to the move as was not mentioned, but I guess we will have to start paying attention to commentary during Ricochet’s matches to find out.

When you think of the word codebreaker most of us instantly think of Chris Jericho and his finishing move, which is more than likely the reason it has found it’s way onto the banned list of WWE words. Jericho’s decision to sign with AEW instead of re-signing with the WWE did not go over well within the company, as was quickly noticed as Jericho was completely removed from the opening reel that WWE airs prior to all their live events within an hour after he appeared for AEW.

We will keep you updated if we hear anything more about WWE’s apparent decision to ban using “codebreaker” to describe the move that Chris Jericho made famous, which is now being used by current WWE US Champion Ricochet.
