Why WWE Turned Kevin Owens Babyface On Last Night’s SmackDown Live
On last night’s episode of SmackDown Live we saw Kevin Owens close out the broadcast by turning on his tag partner for the night, Dolph Ziggler. Owens hit a stunner on Ziggler and then screamed how this was his show.
It looks like Kevin Owens babyface turn has finally happened, as it had previously been reported that he wanted to prove that he can be a babyface and that he is finally ready to do so. After seeing last night’s SmackDown it looks as though Owens is getting the chance to prove that he is indeed ready for the babyface role.
On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed last night’s babyface turn for Kevin Owens. He stated that this now resets Owens back to where WWE originally wanted him to be coming out of this year’s WrestleMania, which as we saw didn’t work out at the time due to an injury to Daniel Bryan which forced Owens into the heel role longer than was planned.
Regarding Kevin Owens babyface turn, Meltzer said:
“It’s very clear that this is a babyface turn for Owens who just turned heel a couple of months ago. I hate turns back and forth, but originally he was supposed to be a babyface. The heel turn was just a last-ditch effort because Daniel Bryan got hurt and now he’s getting back to where they wanted him originally.”
It will be interesting to see where WWE goes from here with Kevin Owens, especially now that the company appears to be embracing a more edgy product and the new addition of Eric Bischoff to run SmackDown.
