Lesnar’s “Right Call” To Quit UFC

Lesnar’s ‘Right Call’ to quit UFC

There has been much talk about Brock Lesnar’s return to UFC over the last 12-months or so. But it seems that UFC president Dana White has ended speculation of any possible salivating encounter between the 41-year-old and fellow Heavyweight fighter Daniel Cormier.

White has been quoted as saying to ESPN: –

He told me he’s done, he’s retired”

The UFC President also reportedly said “You’ve got to be in. It’s not where his head was. He made the right decision” during a live Instagram session which will disappoint fans as it was believed Lesnar would return to the octagon to take on Cormier in what promised to be one of the biggest draws in the sport’s history.

As it is, The Beast’s alleged retirement means Cormier will defend his heavyweight title in a rematch against Stipe Miocic at UFC 241 in August.

During their first meeting, Cormier knocked Miocic out in the first round despite being the underdog and can be backed at 4/6 with Betway as of 22 July to make it a 25th MMA victory.

It appears to be a remarkable u-turn from Lesnar who even entered the octagon in something of a publicity stunt at UFC 226 to confront Cormier. It seemed likely that the dream match-up was going to happen.

Lesnar has not fought in UFC since 2016 and was given a $250,000 one-year suspension from the sport by the NSAC for twice testing positive for a banned substance.

However, it was reported that in January 2019 that Lesnar was still yet to pay the fine but had re-entered the United States Anti-Doping Agency drug testing pool which is one of the requirements in order to fight in the UFC.

That avenue now appears to be closed and with Cormier’s short-term future secured, all this begs the question – What next for Brock Lesnar?

After losing his Universal belt to Seth Rollins at WrestleMania XXXV in something of a shock, The Beast’s long-term future has been cast into doubt.

Not for his conqueror Rollins, though, who took to Twitter to declare that the WWE has the best wrestling in the world.

A bold claim, but indeed one that Rollins is happy to make as he currently sits at the top of his game.

With that in mind, it seems WWE is Lesnar’s chosen path at least for his short-term future as it is for fellow former champion Ronda Rowsey who is now part of the organisation.

That is because The Beast holds one very important key – The Money in the Bank.

The money in the bank contract is a lucrative gimmick in WWE that allows the possessor a title shot any time, anywhere of his choosing within an eleven-month time period.

It means that Lesnar may cash in his contract before walking away from the fight game for good, if he even does of course.

Matt Riddle clearly thinks the Beast will be out the WWE door sooner rather than later and he wants to be the man to end his time in the organisation.

However, Riddle may well have to wait his turn as Lesnar’s holds the all-important key right now begging yet another question – When will he cash in his Money in the Bank contract?

The smart money is on Lesnar pumping on a re-match with his conqueror Seth Rollins.

He has already tried (and failed) to cash it in once against Rollins at the Super ShowDown event at the beginning of June but failed to ring the bell. It all rather embarrassing and left Lesnar in a heap.

Perhaps it is time to go away and re-group before taking Rollins on again and trying to claim his title back.

For now, at least it seems UFC’s loss is once again WWE’s gain. Lesnar is a supreme athlete but one who is fond of re-emerging time and time again.

UFC is certainly not an official closed book for The Beast and having already once previously retired from the sport only to reappear, Dana White’s comments can perhaps be taken with a slight pinch of salt.

Daniel Cormier may prove to be a dangling fruit the 41-year-old is unable to resist but that may have to wait awhile.

Lesnar clearly has unfinished business with Rollins and it looks like we will not stop until he has gotten his revenge.

Beware, The beast is on the rampage.
