Vince McMahon Attempts To Bury AEW’s Product To Potential Investors
Vince McMahon recently participated in WWE’s second quarter conference call with investors, and used the opportunity to take a shot at AEW seemingly attempting to bury their product.
On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about Vince McMahon’s shot at AEW while on the conference call with investors, and stated that there are some in the advertising community who might not have understood what Vince was doing. McMahon commented on AEW’s product mentioning the blood and violence associated with the company.
“At the stock conference on Thursday, Vince was trying to categorize them as blood and guts wrestling […] The belief in the advertising community is that Vince was trying to bury them with that they are doing that wrestling that you’re not supposed to advertise on.”
“Some people say that’s a dirty trick but that’s Vince. You’re in a war with Vince, that’s what Vince is gonna do. People in the advertising community that talked to me: ‘What a dirty trick.’ But it’s a wrestling war, yea in the real world, that’s a pretty low trick but it’s a wrestling war and both sides are gonna have to figure out. That’s how Vince is gonna react. Some people think it was telling that he even brought it up in that realm but he was kind of asked about it too.”
While those inside WWE might not publicly acknowledge it, it does seem like we are indeed in the middle of another wrestling war of sorts. McMahon’s attempt to bury AEW to potential investors is a dirty trick indeed, especially since AEW President and Owner Tony Khan has previously stated that AEW’s weekly show on TNT will be different than what we have seen from their PPV’s to date.
All Elite Wrestling officially kicks off their weekly series on TNT beginning on October 2nd, and we will see exactly which companies bought commercial time on the show.
