Goldberg Reportedly Will Have A Match At WWE’s SummerSlam PPV
Earlier this week WWE confirmed that Dolph Ziggler will face The Miz at SummerSlam. However, it was later reported that this was just smoke and mirrors, and that Dolph Ziggler will have a different opponent for SummerSlam.
According to Dave Meltzer on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, the person that Ziggler will actually be wrestling at SummerSlam is going to “make people mad.” He goes on to elaborate and explain that despite the announcement that he is wrestling The Miz at SummerSlam, that instead Dolph will be facing Goldberg.
“It’s just a funny story about how this all transpired. As you know, I’ve said that Dolph Ziggler has an opponent, I just don’t know who it was. I was just told that it’s not The Miz and it’s not Shawn Michaels.”
He added that “everyone who supports [Goldberg] wants him to make up for the match he had in Saudi Arabia with The Undertaker.” However, he says that he had previously never reported that Goldberg would be wrestling at this year’s SummerSlam PPV until now.
From there Meltzer goes on to state that there were “idiots” who had previously “misreported” what he had said and claimed that he had reported that Goldberg would be wrestling at SummerSlam. He then claims that because of this he received a phone call from somebody inside WWE over something he says he didn’t say.
“So, thank you to these idiots because I got a call from someone in WWE who was talking to me about ‘How did you know it was Bill Goldberg?’ They didn’t realize that I said I didn’t know because all these people had said that, but I never said it in the first place. So, in fact, it is Bill Goldberg, and that’s how I found out. Isn’t that wonderful?”
We will have to see if and how WWE announces the change of plans for Dolph Ziggler’s opponent at SummerSlam, and if Goldberg actually ends up wrestling on the card.
