First the tweet.
Mike Kanellis has posted on Twitter that he has asked for his release from WWE. Mike and his wife recently signed 5 year deals with WWE in June and now a few months later, Mike wants out.
His reasoning is that he only wrestles one day a week and is in the prime of his career and wants to wrestle more. Ever since Mike signed with the company, there have been problems. He has openly stated he had dealt with drug addiction while under contract and has gotten sober in the last year. Shortly after signing a new deal, Mike and Maria announced that they are pregnant with their second child. The Kanellis’ then entered into a cuckhold storyline with Maria saying Mike was not man enough to be the father.
The majority of storylines Mike has been involved in has been centered around him losing and not being able to cut muster in WWE. WWE has not stated that Mike has had been granted his release.
Shawn Spears was the most well known superstar to ask for his release and post it on Twitter, eventually gaining said release. Luke Harper tried to do the same, not only did WWE not release Harper, but he had injury time tacked onto his contract.
It is unknown whether Mike will be forced to sit out the remainder of his 5 year contract, or what the future holds for him.
