One of my favorite wrestlers in the modern day is Chad Gable. An Olympian from the 2012 Games, he has shown he can go far in the WWE. he reminds me of Kurt Angle in a lot of ways. His suplexes and ring work are amazing and given the right kind of push he could go far in wrestling as a whole, not just the WWE.
So what the hell is the point of this “Shorty G” thing
It really is kind of maddening if you are a fan of Gable. For a long time, they have done nothing except make him the butt of a bunch of short jokes. Mostly from Baron Corban, Who I might add is not that over anyway. That kind of stupidity doesn’t get Corban any more over than before all that and it just makes Gable look just as bad. I am more inclined to just change the channel more than cheer for Gable or whatever the WWE is trying to get fans to do with this.
Things didn’t help any this past week on Smackdown by having Gable dressed in whatever outfit that was he was wearing. He looks more like a basketball player than anything close to a wrestler. It reminds me of Chris Hero in NXT. He isn’t the best shape as a wrestler, but they dress him up like a basketball player and watching him, chances are he is going to lose. Gable looks better than Hero does and he is given the same stupid name and now an outfit to match. Boy that makes me want to spend my money!
The thing is though, I am not really blaming Vince for this, not yet. There are plenty of people in the WWE that come up with bad ideas that work for Vince. Most of these ideas come from writers or idea men but people like to blame Vince himself. Chance are he probably has no idea what is actually going on with Gable or anyone else. People like to say Vince controls everything, but looking out what goes on in the WWE and all the different characters and plotlines that go on. Can you really think Vince McMahon is that much in control when stupid things like this are going on?
But I also remember what happened with Gable’s old tag partner Jason Jordan and the whole story of being Kurt Angle’s son. Remember how bad that story got before Jordon’s neck injuries got so bad he took time off and had surgery? How many people want that storyline to come back?
Doesn’t make the outlook look good either. If Gable is going to be doomed to bad storylines like this, it makes me wonder if he can’t find a better outlook somewhere else. Somewhere that would give more focus on his abilities and what he can actually do instead of making him the butt of short jokes or making him wear stupid outfits. That will totally make people pay money for him.
I’m guessing there isn’t a lot of anticipation for a show headlined by Brock Lesnar defending the WWE title against the feared challenge of Shorty G. There is a Wrestlemania main event people are waiting to see right?
