What Really Kept WWE Superstars In Saudi Arabia For An Extra Day
WWE’s fourth event in Saudi Arabia and the second Crown Jewel show happened on Halloween. The talent and employees were scheduled to fly out of the country after the show and make it back to the United States in time for Friday’s Smackdown show.
As you may be aware, a majority of the talent and staff were held in the country for an extra day. WWE and the airline cited mechanical failure of the plane. But, wrestlers who paid for their own charter out of the country were quickly able to leave, and for some reason there seemed to be only one plane able to fly the rest of the talent out. If WWE was there at the behest of Saudi Arabia, you’d imagine that the travel issues would be worked out quicker than it was.
Rumors swirled about other reasons why the talent was held back. Former WWE Spanish announcer Hugo Savinovich went on Facebook to comment on his wife’s passing and mentioned what had happened and why the plane was held back.
This was in Spanish. But Podcaster and wrestling fan Matt Koon took to Twitter to share a transcription that one of his listeners shared with him.
Another Twitter user @BulletClubIta transcribed and translated the post.
So it appears Saudi Arabia is late on paying the WWE for the show, Vince did something in retribution and the KSA got mad. I’m sure more will come out in the future and it will be interesting to see if WWE goes back to the country for future shows. They are two years into a 10 year deal with the country, so a lot is up in the air right now.
