Reason Behind AEW’s Booking Decision That Cody Will Never Challenge For The World Title Again
Cody Rhodes challenged Chris Jericho for the AEW World Title at Full Gear, and the match carried the stipulation that if Cody was unable to defeat Jericho then he would never challenge for the belt again.
Cody ended up losing the match after his cornerman MJF threw in the towel. Which led many to speculate that this would somehow change the stipulation and that Cody would indeed get another title shot, however that does not appear to be the case at all.
The decision for AEW to book Cody this way was discussed in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, and it was said that the reason AEW created a stipulation like this was to prove to fans and critics that they are serious about the stipulations they set and the consequences of the matches.
“Those in the company are insistent that is exactly what will happen, and that this is step one in trying to teach people stipulations matter.”
It will be interesting to see how long this stipulation holds up, as the company plans to focus on win/loss records, both career and annually.
