Kofi Kingston Reveals That Daniel Bryan Pushed for WrestleMania 35 Match
WrestleMania 35 KofiMania finally came through and Kofi Kingston became WWE Champion after defeating Daniel Bryan and winning his first major championship in 11 years in WWE.
Kofi Kingston originally wasn’t going to face Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania but when Mustafa Ali suffered an injury before Elimination Chamber, Kofi took Ali’s place in the match and had the fans 100% behind him. At one point it did look as if Kevin Owens was going to take Kofi’s opportunity but Daniel Bryan pushed for Kingston at WrestleMania 35 as his opponent.
Kofi revealed on WWE After the Bell Podcast that Daniel Bryan pushed for it to happen:
“[Daniel Bryan] pushed for that to happen. The plans weren’t for me to be at WrestleMania. I’m not sure who it was for Daniel to face, but Daniel went in and went to bat for me and the situation and the title match for us to happen. He had a big part in it too. It’s a testament to his state of mind as far as advancing the business and doing the right thing for the people and best product.”
Big E also praised Daniel Bryan for his effort and mentality, along with attitude going into their matchup.
“I give a lot of credit to Daniel Bryan, who I think is legitimate, like a generational talent. It meant so much more because Bryan was so hot and Bryan is just so damn good in the ring, on the mic, with his character. He was so giving with the build to the story that it meant more.”
