WWE Changed Original Royal Rumble Plans For Cain Velasquez
The 2020 Royal Rumble came and went. The night as always was filled with surprises and huge moments. Many noticed that there were a lot of names that had been advertised for the Royal Rumble but ended up not being used. Others were told they were needed, and too were not used.
Such appears to be the case with former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez, who was told that there were plans in place for him to be used last night in Houston for the Royal Rumble, but as we saw.. No Cain.
On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about Cain Velasquez and his noticeable absence last night at the Royal Rumble. He said that he was told that there had been plans in place for the company to use Velasquez last night at the Royal Rumble, however obviously plans changed.
“Cain Velasquez was told that he was in the Rumble. Obviously that changed.
So there were a lot of changes made as far as what they were going to do at the end — a lot as is always the case. With Cain it was like a big segment on the show. They brought him to SmackDown in a long, long time for a big announcement that he was in the Rumble and nothing was ever followed up on.”
