Recently it was announced that the Bella Twins are being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in the same class as the NWO and Batista. Then Nikki and Brie were brought out and interviewed by Alexa Bliss for her segment. A lot of wrestling fans are up in arms saying the Bellas don’t belong in the Hall of Fame and it was just something cooked up by Vince.
Of course, it was!
The Bellas were not on TV for those years because of their classic wrestling skills. They didn’t exactly put on 5-star classics with anyone. Hell, I don’t remember any matches of theirs let alone any of them that put on a clinic for the fans out there. I vaguely remember the Bellas being are part of that John Laurinaitis feud thing with the 10 man match at a Wrestlemania years ago or that time they feuded with each other that stunk up RAW for a while but they are not known for their wrestling ability.
But they aren’t the only ones to get into the hall of fame despite not being the best wrestlers.
Remember Drew Carey and he got into the WWE Hall of fame for being in one Royal Rumble? Or any of the “celebrities” that have been inducted for that matter? What about Vince Sr’s. bagboy James Dudley? The WWE hasn’t exactly been secretive about why he was really recognized. It wasn’t because he was the “first black” whatever they were claiming. He was the guy who carried Vince sr. bags for him and Vince Jr. promised he would take care of him until he passed away. A noble gesture until you try to convince fans that he made a big contribution to the wrestling business.
The WWE Hall of Fame isn’t for the best wrestlers or performers in the world. The WWE gives out the legacy award more for those things like that but it is to get some attention and for Vince to thank people who make HIM happy. Whether they make him a lot of money or are the big faces on WWE reality shows, those are the kind of people who will get into the Hall of fame. The fans are secondary in this case and probably nothing more then people they could attract to buy tickets.
At this point, I’m surprised Shane and Steph aren’t being inducted to the Hall of Fame and we get weeks of videos on Raw and Smackdown telling us they were the best there has ever been.
So the Bella Twins may not be the top of a lot of people’s lists to get into the WWE Hall of Fame. But it isn’t what fans think that gets people there.
