Update On WWE Pre-Recording TV Episodes And Why Decision Was Made To Broadcast Live

WWE had originally planned on doing three days of tv tapings last week, which in theory would have been enough footage for the next couple of months.

However, the decision was made last Friday by Vince McMahon that WWE would return to running their weekly tv programs live instead of taping months of footage in advance.

On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about Vince McMahon and his decision to return to airing their weekly tv live. Interestingly enough, WWE had already recorded one show when Vince changed his mind on how the company was going to handle their television programing going forward.

“It was Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. They were gonna do 5 episodes of SmackDown and 5 episodes of RAW and they were also gonna use Full Sail to do NXT at the same time. So everything was gonna be done between Friday and Monday.”

“Then Friday afternoon they taped one show and Friday afternoon Vince goes, ‘we’re not doing it this way.’”

It was also stated that there were people within WWE who were expected that Vince McMahon could potentially change his mind about pre-recording a month of WWE TV ahead of time.

WWE has already announced some matches for this week’s episode of SmackDown Live on FOX, as they were able to record the show last Friday before Vince stepped in and changed things up.

In addition, it was stated that WWE’s fear of their television networks cutting their contracts as the main reason for the change of plans to go back to running events live. WWE is said to be contracted to produce 49 weeks of live content a year.
