Sami Zayn won the Intercontinental Title from Braun Strowman at WWE Elimination Chamber. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, he has been absent from WWE television. Due to the champion being unable to compete and defend his title, it seems WWE took the logical step.
Reports suggested that Zayn would not be back to WWE in the foreseeable future. So WWE officially announced that Sami Zayn has been stripped of the Intercontinental Championship.
BREAKING NEWS:@SamiZayn is unable to compete and defend the Intercontinental Championship, therefore @WWE has declared the title vacant. A tournament to crown a new Champion will begin on Friday Night Smackdown on FOX.
A tournament will be held to determine another champion. We will have to see who the new champion will be.
