King’s Takes For Fyter Fest Night One
Buckle up your seatbelts ladies and gentlemen, because things are about to get wild. We are about to enter night one of the always-exciting Fyter Fest event. I have been looking forward to this ever since Double or Nothing. Tonight, MJF & Wardlow battle Luchasaurus & Jungle Boy in tag team action. We also have the AEW Tag Team Championship, Women’s Championship, and Cody will defend his TNT Championship against the muscle of The Inner Circle Jake Hager!
MJF & Wardlow vs Luchasaurus & Jungle Boy
I’ve been a WWE guy for many years, but MJF is the heel that the Miz only dreams of being. He’s the biggest asshole and it’s fantastic. Luchasaurus and Wardlow are exciting to watch as the two monsters beat the holy hell out of each other.
The physicality of all four superstars was on full display as mayhem ensued. MJF attempted to use the Dynamite Diamond to steal the victory, but it was thwarted and in the end, The Jurassic Express won the war!
Hikaru Shida vs. Penelope Ford: (AEW Women’s Championship)
The women’s champ came right out of the gate firing on all cylinders with the running knee. Shida had truly impressed me with this newfound aggression as she attacked Ford. The challenger was relentless in her pursuit of becoming the new women’s champion. Shida finally hit the Falcon Arrow finisher but Ford countered the pin into a long near-fall.
Kip Sabian came down to use Shida’s signature kendo stick but it backfired. Ford came back in to deliver her springboard stunner for a solid two-count. The champ retained after two back-to-back Falcon Arrows. Wow, what tremendous retention for Shida!
Cody vs. Jake Hager: TNT Championship
Cody tried to gain the upper hand with his quick speed but Hager just flung him away. The big man continued to show off his brute strength as he rag-dolled the champion. A well-placed distraction from “The Enforcer” Arn Anderson allowed Cody to knock Hager down. Hager was in full control as we head to break.
Cody bounced back and executed a perfect springboard top-rope cutter but was unable to make the count. A huge gutwrench superplex almost gave Hager the victory. The finish came when the challenger attempted to lock in the Arm triangle choke but Cody landed on top for the three-count.
After the match, Hager lost his cool and knocked out the referee. I’m sure this was not the last time we’ll see Hager challenge for a top title. A champion in the making for sure!
Santana & Ortiz vs. Private Party
As typical, Private Party came out of the gate flying all over the place and hitting anything that moved. Santana and Ortiz managed to overpower them and slow the pace of the match isolating the high-flyers. W
ith Matt Hardy in their corner, Kassidy and Qwen picked up the pace against the street thugs of The Inner Circle. Santana and Ortiz were seconds away from victory until Private Party hit Gin-N-Juice for the win. A great tag team match with some explosive action.
Main event: Best Friends vs. Hangman Page & Kenny Omega (AEW World Tag Team Championships)
Best Friends started off their first title shot extremely impressive against the reigning champs. Page and Omega took control and utilized their great double-team maneuvers to keep things in their favor. There was too much going on here as both teams battled it out for the top gold.
Best Friends had the titles won after nailing Omega with Sub-Zero but they were too concerned with a hug. Page was able to fight his way back into the match, and the Buckshot Lariat was goodbye and goodnight for the challengers. After the match, FTR came to offer beers to the champs, and Page obliged but Omega wanted some milk. Tensions grew hot as the show ended.
Damn what a badass night of wrestling and this was only week one! There are so many matches I’m looking forward to next week but the biggest is Orange Cassidy vs. “Le Champion” Chris Jericho!
