When Did WWE Decide To Give The Title To Sasha Banks?
Last night on WWE RAW, Sasha Banks won the RAW Women’s Title from Asuka. It was a controversial title change to say the least but The Boss is a huge name for the company and it makes sense to put the belt on her running into SummerSlam. So when did WWE decide the belt would change hands?
WWE have a lot of options going into SummerSlam. They originally had every intention of Asuka walking into the event as RAW Women’s Champion, but those plans were changed. During Wrestling Observer Radio, it was explained that WWE made the decision right before the television tapings.
“Originally Asuka was supposed to defend the title at SummerSlam against whoever injured Kairi and that was as of at last Sunday night or Monday morning of the tapings when they tore all that up.”
Going even further back, before WWE decided on Sasha it was being planned that either Natalya or Shayna Baszler would face Asuka at SummerSlam. However with Natalya unavailable it was likely that Baszler would get that spot. Those plans seem to have gone out of the window now that Baszler has started a new feud with Nia Jax, as seen this week on WWE RAW. This could signal the Queen Of Spades’ booking for the biggest party of the summer.
