ONE NIGHT IN EHIME PREFECTURE

At the post match press conferences there were stipulations flying left, right, and center for the King of Pro Wrestling matches coming up at Jingu Stadium on the 29th. The matches at Jingu will be the climax of the Summer Struggle 2020 marathon and King of Pro Wrestling PPV. As of this posting, the Yano vs. BUSHI match is a 2-count pin match, Kojima vs. El Desparado is a “Specified Finishers Only” match, and SHO vs. Sanada will be a submission match, as well as Okada vs. Jado will be a Lumberjack plus Strap match. Pure awesomeness.

Due to the pandemic some have argued that New Japan is lacking anything exciting. Contrary to the naysayers, it has been told over these days and that the weeks of Summer Struggle 2020 are going to be just great. Not enough can be said about what we’ve witnessed in Korakuen Hall and elsewhere across Japan. Particularly, Thursday night in Ehime Prefecture on the island of Shikoku.

The night’s card broke down like this:

  1. Ryusuke Taguchi & Satoshi Kojima defeated Yota Tsuji & Gabriel Kidd
  1. YOSHI-HASHI, Toru Yano & Tomohiro Ishii defeated Yuya Uemura, Tomoaki Honma & Yuji Nagata
  1. Minoru Suzuki & El Desperado defeated BUSHI & Shingo Takagi
  1. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kota Ibushi, Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Master Wato defeated Taichi, Zack Sabre Jr. Yoshinobu Kanemaru & DOUKI
  1. Sho, Hirooki Goto & Kazuchika Okada defeated Jado, Gedo & Yujiro Takahashi
  1. Taiji Ishimori, Dick Togo & EVIL defeated Hiromu Takahashi, SANADA & Tetsuya Naito

The card for Jingu Stadium and King of Pro Wrestling is a stacked one. The tag team rivalry (Ibushi/Tanahashi vs. Sabre Jr./Taichi) is one of the best built storylines, or rivalries, of the last 5 years. This has been helped by Ibushi’s return to the ring. Considering the unbelievable talent in New Japan, building a rivalry is not a difficult thing to do. Some fans feel a title change could build to an even bigger rubber match later on at another big event or even at the Tokyo Dome in January. New Japan is really good at keeping good rivalries going and there’s plenty of juice in many of these match ups to do just that.
