Just A week after a historic Summerslam event, WWE brought us Payback.
Payback is the second PPV to emanate from the spectacular looking WWE Thunderdome, and it did not disappoint.
We start our recap on the Payback Kickoff show:
The Riott Squad Defeated The Iiconics:
A big win on the kickoff show for the newly reunited Ruby Riott & Liv Morgan over Billie Kay & Peyton Royce. WWE once again teased friction between Riott & Morgan, when Royce blasted Morgan off the Apron with her back turned, and Kay tried blaming Riott for the attack however Morgan finally realised she could trust her friend and they battled back to over come the Australian duo with a great double team, starting with Liv hitting the Jersey Code Breaker on Kay followed by a Riott kick and a win for The Riott Squad.
Payback Main Card
Bobby Lashley defeated Apollo Crews for the United States Title:
Bobby Lashley captured the United States Title after a back and forth match with Crews ended when the CEO of the hurt business applied the Full Lashley (Nelson) to Crews, resulting in a submission victory,. Crews did manage to gain some ‘Payback’ attackIng Lashley after the match, before escaping largely unscathed before MVP and Shelton Benjamin could come to Lashley’s aid.
Big E defeated Sheamus:
Big E’s singles run goes from strength to strength as he picks up another huge win over the former 4 time world champion sheamus. Following a good hard hitting contest, Big E delivered the Big ending to the Celtic warrior to win the match. After the win, ‘E’ would go over to Corey Graves, yelling passionately for him to let the people know, this is just the beginning for the promising singles run.
Matt Riddle defeated King Corbin
Matt Riddle picked up a big victory, as he defeated King Corbin. The Original bro battled back from an early onslaught to hit the floating bro from the top rope to secure the win. After the match Corbin attacked Riddle backstage, showing that this feud is far from over.
Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax defeated Sasha Banks & Bayley for the WWE Women’s tag team titles
‘The Queen Of Spades’ and ‘The Immovable Object’ captured the Women’s tag team titles, as ‘The Golden Rolemodels’ finally lost their gold. Shayna would trap both Sasha and Bayley in a submission, eventually using Sahsas‘S arm to choke Bayley, while she was locked in the Kirafuda clutch, resulting in the Smackdown Women’s champion tapping out. Does this now mean, we are one step closer to the implosion and eventual feud between Banks and Bayley, we have all be waiting for .
Keith Lee defeated Randy Orton
In arguably the biggest victory of the night, Keith Lee would defeat the 13 time world champion on his main roster PPV debut. ‘The Limitless one’ would hit the ‘The Legend Killer’ with the spirit bomb, cleanly pinning Orton in the middle of the ring. Does this now mean Lee is now in the mix for the WWE championship? We will have to wait and see.
Rey & Dominik Mysterio defeated Seth Rollins and Murphy
The Father and Son duo finally overcame ‘The Monday Night Messiah’ and his disciple Murphy. It was a Miscommunication between Rollins and Murphy resulting in Murphy kicking Rollins, then Dominik would take full advantage, hitting Murphy with his fathers most famous move The 619, followed by his late, legendary Uncle Eddie Guerrero’s frog splash, securing the young superstars first win in wwe.
Roman Reigns defeated The Fiend Bray Wyatt & Braun Strowman for The Universal Championship
In a Wrestlemania worthy main eventRoman reigns recaptured the title he never lost, to close of a very good Payback Ppv. Braun Strowman would attack the fiend during his entrance to kick off the match, and the two destroyed eachother All over the ringside area, until eventually The Fiend would superplex ‘The Monster among men’ resulting in the ring buckling. It was then, that ‘The Big Dog’ would make his entrance, with his new advocate, Paul Heyman by his side, he signed the contract for the title match, and made his way down to the ring. He was eventually caught in the Mandible Claw by the fiend, before hitting Wyatt with a low blow, and then spearing Strowman, to secure a huge victory .
