Roman Reigns made a shock return to WWE at Summerslam, and what we certainly ‘never saw coming’ was the fact he would seemingly return as a heel. The following Smackdown, Reigns and WWE would shock the world by revealing Paul Heyman is now firmly by the side of ‘The Big Dog’. Roman would become Universal Champion at Payback, low blowing The Fiend and solidifying himself as a heel! So who’s idea was this?
It looks like it was a collaborative effort, involving Vince McMahon and Roman Reigns and they were in regular contact throughout Roman’s hiatus. Very few people knew that the multi time world champion was returning at Summerslam.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter have noted that it is unknown who decided to pair Reigns with Brock Lesnar’s former advocate Paul Heyman. What does seem certain is that Roman asked Vince for a heel turn, and it looks like the CEO of WWE has finally obliged.
It looks we are in for a long run at the top of the mountain for Reigns, as reports suggest he is set to remain Universal Champion for some time.
‘The Big Dog’ has finally turned heel. ‘The WWE Universe’ has been clamouring for this for years but will Reigns finally become the mega star he and WWE have been hoping for? If the last week is anything to go by, it certainly looks like it!
