Mike Tyson Originally Planned For AEW All Out
Boxing Legend Mike Tyson appeared at AEW’s Double Or Nothing PPV earlier this year, and presented Cody Rhodes with the TNT Championship following his TNT Title Tournament Finals Match-up victory against Lance Archer.
Tyson then appeared on the post Double Or Nothing episode of AEW Dynamite and teased a potential program with Chris Jericho. It’s being said that there are still plans in place for Mike Tyson’s return to AEW, and that he will eventually pick up the program with Chris Jericho that they laid the foundation for.
On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Chris Jericho has said that there were plans in place at one point for Mike Tyson to appear at AEW’s All Out PPV. However, when Mike Tyson’s exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr. was announced the plans with Mike Tyson and AEW went away.
It was also stated that Mike Tyson most likely did not want to appear on two events over such a short duration of time, as the feeling was that it would “diminish his brand.” Meltzer, said that this was especially true since one of the two events would be a pro wrestling pay-per-view event.
With Tyson’s fight with Roy Jones Jr. now pushed pack to November it would have freed him up to potentially appear at All Out, however AEW had already decided to move on from plans for Jericho and Tyson, and pivoted by stretching Jericho’s feud with Orange Cassidy into a three match series.
