Dustin Poirier Says Showdown Against Tony Ferguson Is Off, For Now
A much anticipated matchup between Lightweight contenders Dustin “Diamond” Poirier and Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson seems to be at a stand still.
Dustin Poirier talked to ESPN about the possibility of the fight:
UFC and I didn’t come to terms, I will not be fighting on Oct. 24.
The fight was being billed as the Co- Main Event at UFC 254 to the Lightweight Championship match between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje. However Poirier didn’t shut the door completely on the possibility the fight will happen:
I just need to be compensated if they want this fight, Simple as that. I’m a prize fighter and the prize needs to be right.
Hopefully both camps can come to terms and make the fight happen. Earlier this year Jon Jones, Jorge Masvidal and Henry Cejudo had all been vocal on the issue of not being properly compensated by the UFC:
